FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUSTA – Senator Lisa Keim (R-Oxford) has submitted legislation to expand opportunities for the next generation of Maine hunters. The bill, “An Act To Preserve Maine’s Traditional Heritage by Expanding Maine Youth Hunting,” would lengthen current youth days into three days, Thursday-Saturday.
“I submitted this bill on behalf of a very important constituent – my husband,” Keim said. “As a mill worker, he knows how difficult it can be for shift workers to utilize youth hunting days to introduce their children and grandchildren to the sport since they often times don’t work a regular Monday-Friday schedule. By lengthening youth day events to three days, we will better achieve the goal, which is to bring up the next generation of sportsmen and sportswomen.”
This bill is still in the drafting phase. Once it receives an LD number, it will be referred to committee for a public hearing.
