
Sen. Harold “Trey” Stewart III is serving his first term in the Maine Senate after representing the people of House District 147 for two terms in the House of Representatives. He previously served as the Assistant House Republican Leader for the 129th Legislature.
Senator Stewart serves on the Energy, Utilities, and Technology Committee and the Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee.
Currently, Sen. Stewart is the youngest member of the Maine Senate. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 2012. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine in 2016 in political science and sociology, the same year he was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives. Since then, he has completed an MBA while serving his first term in the legislature, graduating in May of 2018 and is now in his second year of law school at Maine Law.
Sen. Stewart worked in the Office of Congressman Bruce Poliquin prior to serving in the legislature and for the Aroostook Partnership and Northern Maine Development Commission.
During his two terms in the Maine House, Sen. Stewart was the youngest member of the Maine Legislature and served on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, the Taxation Committee, and the statewide Opioid Task Force.
In addition to his career and legislative service, Sen. Stewart is also a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club; Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce; Trinity Masonic Lodge #130; Aroostook County Action Program, Board of Directors; Northern Maine Community College Foundation, Board of Directors; University of Maine at Presque Isle Board of Visitors; American Legislative Exchange Council, Board of Directors; National Conference of State Legislatures, Board of Directors; and Northeast Forest Fire Protection Compact, Commissioner for Maine. He previously served as a volunteer firefighter for the Presque Isle Fire Department for five years.
Sen. Stewart spends his spare time traveling around Maine and the country, reading, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family camp with friends and family.
