FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RUMFORD: At the request of Senator Lisa Keim (R-Oxford), chair of the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee, the Supreme Judicial Court will visit Mountain Valley High School in Rumford on Friday, October 13. Students from Buckfield Junior Senior High School and Dirigo High School in Dixfield will be invited to attend as well.

During the visit, the Supreme Judicial Court will provide an important opportunity for students to learn about the third branch of government by holding oral arguments in actual appellate court cases at the school on cases the students have been briefed on in advance. Following the oral argument, lawyers will stay to answer the student’s questions.

“This event is a rare, alternative learning opportunity that will provide students with important exposure to the practice of appellate law,” said Sen. Keim. “It has been years since students in Oxford County have had this unique opportunity. I am delighted that the Supreme Judicial Court accepted my invitation and look forward to attending this special event.”
