FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUSTA – Senator Matt Pouliot (R-Kennebec) has sponsored legislation to add personal finance to the list of topics taught in public and charter K-12 schools in Maine. The bill, LD 160, “An Act To Add Instruction in Personal Finance to the Statewide System of Learning Results,” has been referred to the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee for consideration.
“By including personal finance in K-12 curriculum, we can be sure that students are better prepared for the ‘real world’ once they graduate from high school, and that they are better prepared to understand what it means to take on debt and manage their financial health as they make important life decisions, such as which college to attend and which career paths they chose to follow,” said Pouliot. “By teaching them about finance early on, we can better prepare them to make wise choices about their futures.”
