Senate Republicans issue statement in response to the Judiciary Committee’s vote on the abortion bill LD 1619

Lisa Keim, R-Oxford (center), speaks at the Right to Life Rally held at the Maine State House on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in response to the unveiling of LD 1619, the Governor’s abortion legislation. The bill aims to make Maine the most permissive state in the U.S. by allowing abortion up to moment of delivery. Thousands of Mainers against the legislation packed the State House during the bill’s public hearing on May 1, of which 1,184 submitted testimony in opposition to it. AUGUSTA – Thousands of people packed the State House on May 1 with a clear message: Do not change Maine’s abortion laws. Yet today, seven Democrats on the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee voted to put Maine on the path to passing one of the most radical and extreme abortion laws in the nation.

If this legislation passes, it will be legal to end the life of a healthy unborn baby for any reason during the third trimester up to the moment of birth. No restrictions. No questions asked.

Senate Republicans will continue listening to the Maine people and fighting this extreme proposal.

  1. If this passes it will be the worst thing for Maine. God’s day of judgment is coming and everyone who votes for this will be judged more harshly. Killing babies is horrible.

  2. The notion of even the discussion of such legislation shows how much people have turned away from the laws of our Savior. Democrats promote laws to remove our second amendment rights in the name public safety but promote the sacrifice of the unborn children as a common medical procedure. Such hypocrisy!
