AUGUSTA – Legislative Republicans issued the following statement in response to the manhunt currently under way in Androscoggin County and surrounding areas:

“We continue to monitor the horrific situation in the greater Lewiston area as the manhunt is underway for the person of interest in the Lewiston mass shooting. We grieve for the families of the 18 who were killed and 13 injured in this senseless tragedy.
“We thank the Lewiston Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, our emergency first responders, local hospitals and federal authorities for their heroic efforts as the night unfolded and manhunt continues. We urge everyone to stay safe and vigilant by monitoring instructions and advisories from law enforcement, and stand ready to assist any way we can.”
Police ask if you have any information or know the whereabouts of the suspect, Robert Card, please call 911 or the dedicated tip lines at 207-213-9526 or 207-509-9002.

We need all republicans to stand up and stop any new gun laws! and and enforce the ones we have on the books! We are under attack by the anti-gunners!
Just in from South Portland Maine 11/05/2023!
A guy arrested for threatening to get an AR-15 and shoot people in So. Portland and gets out on bail?
What could possibility go wrong? Just another Lewiston because our justice system is screwed up.
We do not need more gun laws again honest taxpayers ! We need a justice system that protects us all and enforces the laws we have now!
A person who says he is going to get an AR15 to do harm, should be in a mental lock up for major testing, not on the streets the same day!
Threats Against South Portland Restaurant Results in Arrest
Just before 11 PM on 10/31, officers from the South Portland Police Department were dispatched to Buffalo Wild Wings for a report of male who was threatening to retrieve an AR-15 and shoot restaurant patrons.
Officers Camara, Clark, Lovell and Purinton along with Sergeants Giusto and Armstrong responded, eventually determining the individual had left the scene after clearing all vehicles in the parking lot. During this time, customers of the restaurant remained inside for their safety.
After speaking with staff and reviewing security footage, the individual in question was identified as Johann Schwiesow, who is not a resident of South Portland. Of particular concern, Schwiesow had singled out a group of patrons by their race when making these threats.
While some officers remained on scene to provide security and further investigate the incident, other officers canvassed the area for the suspect.
With the assistance of the Maine State Police, Schwiesow was located and arrested in a neighboring county on 11/1. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he was booked in on the charge of Terrorizing. Schwiesow has since been released on $5000 bail. While out on bail, Schwiesow is not permitted to possess weapons or return to Buffalo Wild Wings.
The SPPD would like to thank Buffalo Wild Wings (who ended up closing early in light of the threats made) for their cooperation during this incident. Additionally, the SPPD would like to thank the Maine State Police for their assistance as well.
