A lifelong resident of Auburn, Sen. Bruce Bickford returned to the Maine Legislature in November 2024 after a two-year hiatus to represent Senate District 20. He is serving his first term in the Maine Senate and his seventh legislative term overall. First elected to the House of Representatives in 2008, he served 12 of the next 14 years in that Chamber, missing only the 126th Legislature in 2013-14.
A graduate of Edward Little High School, Sen. Bickford has spent his career managing small businesses throughout central and southern Maine. Now retired, he works as a pharmacy technician in Auburn. Still, he maintains local business connections as a board member of the Auburn Business Association as well as through his role on the Lewiston Auburn Railroad Company’s Board of Directors.
Sen. Bickford’s past community service includes serving as a member of the Lewiston Auburn Health Committee and a community volunteer leader for the Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross.
During his past legislative service, Sen. Bickford has served on the Labor Committee and spent five terms on the Taxation Committee. Through his work on the latter, he was able to usher in two of the largest income tax cuts in Maine’s history.
Sen. Bickford and his wife, Margie, have been married for 39 years and have four children and six grandchildren. They both attend Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, fishing, boating and spending time with his family. He has even “dabbled a little bit” in local theater, having been in productions of Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theater.
