Sen. Matt Harrington is serving his second term in the Maine State Senate representing the people of Senate District 33. The district includes the municipalities of Alfred, Lebanon, Sanford and Waterboro.

Upon his reelection in November 2024, his Senate Republican colleagues chose him as the Caucus’s Assistant Senate Republican Leader for the 132nd Legislature. As part of the leadership team, he became a member of the Legislative Council, which is the governing body of the Maine Legislature.

Prior to his service in the Senate, Sen. Harrington represented the people of District 19 for four terms in the Maine House of Representatives. While there, he served on the State and Local Government Committee; Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business Committee; Government Oversight Committee; and the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee.

After joining the Senate, he served as the Senate Republican Lead on the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee as well as the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.

Sen. Harrington is a real estate agent working primarily in York County. A 17-year veteran of law enforcement, he is also a reserve police officer for the Kennebunk Police Department. He is a graduate of Southern Maine Community College and earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of Southern Maine.

Active in his community, Sen. Harrington serves as a board member for the Sanford Mainers, a New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) team. He is also a Freemason and Shriner with the Kora Temple and a member of the Sanford Elks Club. He is a former member of the Maine Association of Police and his church’s board of trustees.

A fourth-generation Mainer, he and his wife, Lauren, have two dogs – Bailey and Bullet. Sen. Harrington enjoys golf, fishing and spending time with family.
