FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUGUSTA – On Wednesday, March 29, the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee nominated Dr. Robert G. Hasson, Jr. of South Portland to serve as the next Commissioner of Education unanimously, with one committee member absent.
“It was encouraging to have consensus among committee members after such a long stretch without a nominated commissioner,” said Senator Langley, Chair of the Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. “Dr. Hasson is committed to putting our students first and working to find new ways to serve our disadvantaged youth with a goal of preparing them for lifetime success. Over the last few months in his role as Acting Commissioner, Dr. Hasson has more than proven his effectiveness to everyone on the committee. He is clearly qualified for the post.
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with him and his staff.”
