AUGUSTA – On Friday, March 17, Senator Joyce Maker (R-Washington), Representative Will Tuell (R-East Machias), Representative Stacey Guerin (R-Glenburn) and Calais Regional Hospital’s Registered Dietitian, Mona Van Wart, celebrated National Nutrition Month® with attendance at Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ March Legislative Breakfast.
National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign held annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses on the importance of making informed food choices. “Put Your Best Fork Forward” is the theme this is year, which serves as a reminder that we all hold the power to make healthy food choices.
“This initiative is important because we all hold the power to make the small choices now that can help benefit our health in the long run,” said Sen. Joyce Maker.
Mona Van Wart, Calais Regional Hospital’s Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, discussed the community programs she has been involved in and voiced that the CRH’s 2017 Strategic Plan includes initiatives for her to be involved in increasing healthier food options for the community by utilizing local resources and also increased involvement at local schools.
