AUGUSTA – Senate President Michael Thibodeau (R-Waldo) has appointed Senator Rodney Whittemore (R-Somerset) as Senate Chair of the Citizen Trade Policy Commission, to lead as a representative of the majority party of the Senate.

The Citizen Trade Policy Commission (CTPC) is a bipartisan commission that consists of 17 voting members including legislators appointed from both the Senate and House, the Attorney General, commissioners from various departments and stakeholders from the public including a small business person, a small farmer, a health care professional and more.

Elected officials, commissioners and the Attorney General serve for terms that coincide with their elective or appointive terms; all other members serve for three-year terms.

Created by statute, CTPC is tasked with assessing and monitoring legal and economic impacts of trade agreements and recommending policies designed to bolster Maine’s economy.

“It’s an honor to have been given the opportunity to lead this important group over the next few years,” said Sen. Whittemore. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to delve into trade agreements and how we can leverage them to better Maine’s economy.”
